Happy New Year!
I’ve got some interesting blog post topics noted in my writing notebook- I always jot down ideas as they come to me, even when I’m on vacation. I’m also always happy to entertain suggestions for blog topics. Feel free to put them in the comments, send me an email ( melanie at beyondmanaging dot com) or tweet them at me (@melanie_nelson).
Today’s post isn’t from my topics list, though. It is just an update on two other things I have going on.
First of all, I’m running a GoodReads giveaway for Navigating the Path to Industry, my short ebook with advice for conducting a non-academic job search, based on my 10+ years as a hiring manager. I’ve hired people at all levels, from people straight out of college to people with a PhD and many years experience, and I think the advice in the book is broadly applicable to all of them. One of my early reviews was from an actuary, and she agreed. You can find more information about the book, including links to more reviews and a sample section about informational interviews on the book’s web page.
The giveaway ends on January 16, so enter soon!
I’m also starting a new monthly column at Chronicle Vitae. My first column will be out sometime in January (I’ll be sure to share it!) but if you are active on the site, you can also connect to me there, via my profile. I’ll be writing about management and productivity, aimed at an academic audience. I may also write about searching for a job outside of academia.
I’ll write up one of my meatier topics and post again soon. In the meantime, feel free to share any projects you have going in the comments.
