Happy New Year!
I’ve got some interesting blog post topics noted in my writing notebook- I always jot down ideas as they come to me, even when I’m on vacation. Today’s post isn’t from my topics list, though. It is just an update on two other things I have going on.
First of all, I’m running a GoodReads giveaway for Navigating the Path to Industry, my short ebook with advice for conducting a non-academic job search, based on my 10+ years as a hiring manager. I’ve hired people at all levels, from people straight out of college to people with a PhD and many years experience, and I think the advice in the book is broadly applicable to all of them. One of my early reviews was from an actuary, and she agreed. You can find more information about the book, including links to more reviews and a sample section about informational interviews on the book’s web page.

I’m also starting a new monthly column at Chronicle Vitae. I’ll be writing about management and productivity, aimed at an academic audience. I may also write about searching for a job outside of academia.

Just purchased to help myself prep for the second half of the seminar course I’m running for seniors in a Earth Science/Geology major. I’m planning to talk about, and have them work on, resumes and cover letters so I anticipate your book being really helpful.
Also, the GoodReads link isn’t working.

Also, sincere apologies for not approving these comments (and fixing the links) earlier. Something appears to be broken in the process that emails me when I get comments, so I didn’t notice these come in. I’ve added “fix email on Beyond Managing” to my to do list for today. Comments are at least 90% of the fun of having a blog, and I don’t want to miss any!
